Mac Tip #5 — Use Find My Mac This tip is to protect your Mac from old-school thieves, the kind that snatch it physically and run. With Find My Mac, you can locate it on a map using GPS tracking, you can lock it remotely so that nobody can get in, and you can even wipe all the data remotely. Avast for MAC run smoothly on Mac OS X 10.5.x (Leopard), Mac OS X 10.6.x (Snow Leopard) and Mac OS X 10.7.x (Lion). It won’t run properly if you already have an antivirus protection installed in your MAC. Though the full version of Avast Antivirus must be installed in a computer, the Avast Virus Cleaner and Removal Tool can be installed on a USB drive. You can then use the USB drive as a portable cleaning tool to run during the startup process.
A little while ago I noticed my 5 month old MBP wasn't running properly. It gradually got worse till the point where it became unusable as apps were crashing relentlessly. I brought it to the genius bar. They said the hard drive was a lemon and replaced it. Well that fixed absolutely nothing. Took it home and had the same problems so I decided to start running some anti-malware software. Adware medic, Sophos, Avast, Clam and a couple others. They all found infected files and deleted them. This helped immensely and now my computer is running ALMOST perfectly. I feel it still isn't 100%. It's still slightly laggy to open drop down items from big folders, I get the occasional little glitch like a program not responding, some plugins I have are a glitchy and cause my software to crash but I think that's just cause they were buggy to begin with. My main concern is when I run Avast it says there are hundreds of files it cannot scan. Are these malicious? How did I get rid of them? If they are not the culprit, then what else can I do to make my mac run perfectly? Are there any better antivirus programs that I am unaware of?
